Acupuncture for
Nausea & Vomiting
at
Union Yoga & Physical Therapy
Hi there! I’m Dr. Danielle Rose, your local acupuncturist, herbal medicine practitioner, and physical therapist here at Union Yoga & Physical Therapy in Annandale, VA.

One of the most researched acupuncture points for nausea is called Pericardium 6 (PC6) — located on the inner wrist. You may recognize it from those pressure bands people wear to prevent seasickness on cruises. That’s right — those bands target that acupuncture point!
Acupuncture for Nausea Relief
Many of my patients describe acupuncture as a game-changer for nausea. From morning sickness during pregnancy to chronic digestive issues or post-surgical nausea, acupuncture can gently calm your system and improve your overall quality of life.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), nausea and vomiting are signs that your qi (energy) is moving in the wrong direction — upward instead of downward. Acupuncture uses specific points to redirect your energy flow, easing nausea and rebalancing your digestive system.

How Herbal Medicine Supports the Process

In addition to acupuncture, herbal medicine can help guide qi downward and settle the stomach. Depending on the severity or chronic nature of your nausea, herbs can make a significant difference.

They can be taken as a tincture or in pill form, which makes them easy to incorporate even when your stomach feels unsettled.
Pro Tip: With nausea, grab ginger instead of mint. In TCM, ginger is warming & strongly calms the stomach where mint is cooling & better for when we're sick with a cold or flu.
What to Expect from Treatment
Everyone’s body is different, but most patients notice some relief even after their first session.
For lasting change and balance, I typically recommend 4–8 weekly visits, sometimes combined with a custom herbal formula for deeper support.
