Finding Relief Through Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine
Hi there! I’m Dr. Danielle Rose, acupuncturist, herbal medicine practitioner, and pelvic floor physical therapist. My practice focuses on Women’s Health, because these issues are both my passion and my personal story.

The problem of painful or heavy periods is deeply personal for me — it’s actually what brought me to acupuncture in the first place. The results were nothing short of miraculous, and I truly believe this medicine can be just as life-changing for you.

If your period pain or heavy flow keeps you curled up with a heating pad, popping painkillers, or missing work, you deserve a better option. Let me introduce you to the gentle, effective power of acupuncture and herbal medicine.
How Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Understands Menstrual Pain
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), pain is caused by stagnation — energy or blood that isn’t moving freely through the body. When there’s blockage, pain follows.

Here are the most common TCM causes of painful periods:
Qi and Blood Stagnation
When circulation slows or becomes blocked, cramping and pain increase — especially before or during menstruation.

Cold in the Uterus
Cold can enter the body from eating too many cold foods, living in cold environments, or intense exercise during menstruation. Cold constricts blood flow, leading to pain and clotting.
Qi Stagnation Turning into Heat
When energy is blocked for too long, it transforms into heat. Think of a dam holding back water — eventually, the built-up energy turns into pressure and inflammation, causing burning or throbbing pain.
Acupuncture helps restore flow. By releasing stagnation and rebalancing qi and blood, the pain eases naturally. When qi moves, there is no pain.

Understanding Heavy Periods (Menorrhagia) in TCM
Excessive bleeding can be just as disruptive as painful cramps. Constantly wearing black, planning your life around bathroom access, or feeling drained from blood loss — it’s exhausting, both physically and emotionally.

In Western medicine, heavy periods are defined as soaking a pad or tampon every hour or prolonged bleeding. In TCM, we look deeper at why the body is bleeding excessively.
Here are the top TCM causes of heavy periods:
Heat in the Blood
Excess heat accelerates circulation, leading to faster, heavier bleeding and brighter red blood.

Qi Deficiency
When your body’s energy (qi) is weak, it loses the ability to hold blood in the vessels. This causes excessive bleeding and fatigue.
Yin Deficiency
Yin represents coolness and moisture in the body. When yin is low, heat and dryness rise, leading to imbalance and heavy bleeding — similar to what happens during menopause, but it can occur at any age.
Acupuncture helps rebalance the body’s systems, cooling excess heat, strengthening qi, and restoring hormonal harmony. Over one to two cycles, most women notice less bleeding, more energy, and steadier moods.
Acupuncture as a Natural Solution for Menstrual Balance
Unlike medications that only mask symptoms, acupuncture works to correct the underlying imbalance.
Regular sessions can:

-
Reduce cramping and pelvic pain
-
Normalize menstrual flow
-
Regulate hormonal fluctuations
-
Improve energy and mood
-
Support better sleep and stress management
Each body is unique, so results vary, but most patients begin noticing improvements after 1–2 menstrual cycles.
